France recorded its hottest day on record with a national average temperature of 30.0°C, as local temperatures in the town of Pulluau skyrocketed to a blistering 43.8°C. Neighboring Spain also logged its hottest June days in history, exceeding 40°C in several locations. Even the UK's Met Office issued rare red warnings, reporting a new provisional June daily maximum air temperature of 36.7°C.

The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) warned that the severe heatwave is causing massive knock-on impacts. Wildfire risks have intensified amid worsening droughts, while soaring air conditioning demands have pushed European cooling needs to a 45-year high and strained regional power grids. UN climate officials stressed that this savage weather pattern bears the unmistakable fingerprints of the accelerating global climate crisis.
