Produced by Silverback Films and directed by James Reed, the film is narrated by renowned natural historian Sir David Attenborough in collaboration with international partners. It captures the intimate world of gorillas while highlighting Rwanda’s long-term commitment to environmental protection and biodiversity conservation.

At the heart of A Gorilla Story is Attenborough’s first recorded encounter with a baby gorilla named Pablo. The documentary revisits that historic moment and traces the lineage of Pablo’s descendants in present-day Rwanda.

Blending newly captured footage from the mountains with archival material, the film creates a narrative that connects past observations with current developments within the same gorilla family. Attenborough’s narration includes excerpts from his journals dating back to 1978, providing context and continuity across the decades.

Mountain gorillas are found in Volcanoes National Park, part of the Virunga Massif in northwestern Rwanda. This park is one of four national parks in Rwanda, alongside Akagera National Park in the east, known for its savannah and Big Five wildlife; Nyungwe National Park in the southwest, home to ancient rainforests and chimpanzees; and Gishwati-Mukura National Park in the west, a restored forest corridor rich in biodiversity. Together, these parks showcase Rwanda’s diverse landscapes.

Through breathtaking visuals and Attenborough’s signature storytelling, the documentary highlights Rwanda’s sustained efforts to safeguard one of the world’s most endangered species, offering global audiences a deeper understanding.
