Fumbira Charles stands tall as one of the most promising student footballers at the University Of Rwanda, Huye Campus, and the captain of its football team.

 Fumbira Charles stands tall as one of the most promising student footballers at the University of Rwanda, Huye Campus, and the captain of its football team. Charles ’s journey into football did not begin with fame or recognition, but with loving game.

 Growing up in Rwinkwavu, where he completed both his primary and O’Level education, he spent countless hours playing football simply for joy. “I loved football since I was young,” he recalls. However, he starts to take the sports seriously, when he was in senior 4 secondary school and  turning passion into purpose.

Between 2019 and 2022, while studying at Nyamirama Secondary School in Kayonza District, Charles’s talent truly came to life. He quickly became known as a lethal striker dominating school competitions and finishing as the top scorer among all school teams. His ability to change the course of a game made him a standout figure.

During interclass competitions, Charles’s leadership and performance were so amazing, because he led his class to victory, securing the trophy and earning admiration from both peers and teachers, but his impact went even further.

 In inter school tournaments, Charles played a key role in helping Nyamirama Secondary School rise to the top, becoming the best performing school in the entire kayonza district.His talent did not go unnoticed beyond Rwanda’s borders, because in 2019, Charles was selected among Rwanda’s under-15 players to represent the country in the CECAFA Kagame Cup held in Eritrea.

As part of a 20-player squad that chosen in whole country, he had the honor of standing on an international stage at a young age and experience that strengthened both his confidence and ambition.

Today, Charles continues his journey at the University of Rwanda, Huye Campus, where he has grown not only as a player but also as a leader. Now serving as the captain of the university’s football team, he carries the responsibility of guiding and inspiring his teammates, both on and off the pitch. This step marks a significant milestone in his career, opening doors to professional opportunities and further development.

Charles’s story is one of growth, discipline, and belief. From playing barefoot in village fields to representing his country and leading a university team, he embodies the dreams of many young athletes across Rwanda, because he is still chasing his ambitions, and building the legacy.
