Prosecution Seeks Two-Year Sentence for DJ Toxxyk
The prosecution has requested the Nyarugenge Primary Court to convict Shema Arnaud De Bosscher, widely known as DJ Toxxyk, of involuntary manslaughter and related charges. Prosecutors are seeking a sentence of two years in prison and a fine of 1 million Frw.
The substantive trial took place on April 20, 2026, following a postponement on April 15. The defense had previously requested that the trial proceed only when the accused’s legal counsel could be physically present with him, as he was appearing via video link from detention. For this session, his lawyers joined him at the Mageragere Correctional Facility.
DJ Toxxyk faces several charges stemming from an incident in the early hours of December 20, 2025. The charges include:
• Involuntary Manslaughter: Relating to a fatal road accident that claimed the life of a police officer.
• Hit and Run: Leaving the scene of the accident.
• Drug-Related Offenses: Possession or use of narcotics/controlled substances discovered during the subsequent investigation of his residence.
Under Article 111 of the law determining offenses and penalties in general, involuntary manslaughter—caused by negligence, imprudence, or failure to follow regulations without intent to kill—carries a penalty of six months to two years in prison and a fine between 500,000 Frw and 2,000,000 Frw.
Additionally:
• Narcoticsa Use: Conviction carries a sentence of one to two years or community service.
• Hit and Run: Based on the 1987 road safety laws (applicable at the time of the incident), the penalty ranges from three months to one year in prison, alongside specific fines.
DJ Toxxyk has entered a guilty plea for the charges of involuntary manslaughter and leaving the scene of the accident. However, he denies the drug-related charges.
During the proceedings, he informed the court that he had sought forgiveness from the family of the deceased police officer, noting that the family had formally granted him their forgiveness.
The court is scheduled to deliver its verdict on May 4, 2026, at 2:00 PM.
