How Rwanda’s 9.4% Growth and Tech Boom Are Fast-Tracking its 2030 SDG Goals
Rwanda's Third Voluntary National Review highlights rapid 9.4% GDP growth, 99% 4G coverage, and a massive drop in poverty as the nation accelerates towards its 2030 goals.
NEW YORK: Presenting its Third Voluntary National Review (VNR) at the United Nations, Rwanda has showcased a masterclass in rapid, inclusive development, proving that digital innovation and robust governance are yielding tangible quality-of-life transformations.
The newly released metrics highlight a remarkable trajectory. Underpinned by Vision 2050 and the Second National Strategy for Transformation (NST2), Rwanda recorded an impressive 9.4% GDP growth in 2025. This economic surge is directly improving lives: poverty fell drastically from 39.8% in 2017 to 27.4% in 2024, while average life expectancy has climbed to 70.2 years and financial inclusion has reached an unprecedented 96% of adults.
A key driver of this momentum is Rwanda’s massive leap in digital infrastructure. High-speed 4G coverage now blankets 99% of the population, enabling citizens to instantly access over 200 public services online. Basic utilities are keeping pace, with 89.5% of households accessing improved water sources and 84.6% powered by clean electricity.
While progress is swift evidenced by youth unemployment dropping from 22.7% to 19.8% bridging the SDG financing gap remains a critical next step. At the UN presentation, Minister Yusuf Murangwa extended an open invitation to global markets:
"We stand as an investment and implementation ready partner, and we invite all our partners to join us in mobilizing catalytic financing, innovation and strategic partnerships."
With its digital-first, high-growth approach, Rwanda is proving that with clear vision and strategic global partnerships, the 2030 goals are not just aspirational—they are actively being built.
