The woman, who lives in Rweibare II village, Kyanzire Parish in Kashenshero Town, was arrested on May 1, 2025. She is currently being held at Mitooma Police Station while investigations continue.

‎Police say the woman forced the young boy, who is her husband’s child, to swallow the needles after wrapping them in paper. The child became very sick and is now receiving treatment at Mbarara Hospital, where doctors performed surgery to remove the needles.

‎Authorities have identified the suspect as Juliet Tushabeomwe. They believe she acted with the intention of killing the child, and she is being investigated for attempted murder.

‎The police commander in the Bushenyi area, Godfrey Achiria, confirmed her arrest. He said the suspect is being held to help with investigations into the case and is facing charges related to attempted murder.

‎Before being taken to the hospital, the child had suffered severe stomach pain for about two weeks. His aunt, Birungi Eunice, took him for medical care.

‎Medical tests, including X-rays and CT scans at Gava Imaging Centre and Ishaka Adventist Hospital, showed metal objects inside the child’s stomach.

‎He was then referred to Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital, where doctors successfully removed all 46 needles through surgery. They say he is now recovering.

‎Reports indicate that the woman wrapped the needles in paper and forced the child to swallow them, even giving him porridge to help him swallow.

‎The child’s father, Twinomugisha Simon, told police that he had ongoing conflicts with his wife. He said his wife did not want the boy to communicate with his biological mother and had threatened to send the child away if he continued.
