Rwanda: Aimable Karasira Uzaramba Passes Away Hours Before Prison Release
The Rwanda Correctional Service (RCS) has announced that Aimable Karasira Uzaramba has died after overdosing on his regular medication. His death occurred just hours before he was scheduled to be released from prison, as he had completed his sentence.
RCS Spokesperson, Hillary Sengabo, told IGIHE that on Wednesday—after all final checks had been completed for his release—Karasira ingested an excessive amount of the medication prescribed for his mental health condition.
"Normally, when he took the medicine, it would help him sleep for about six hours. However, because he took it in a manner suggesting suicide, the high dosage led to his death. He was rushed to Nyarugenge Hospital, but they were unable to save him," Sengabo stated.
Sengabo added that Karasira passed away during the night, around midnight.
