A Quarter-Century of Security: President Kagame Honors RNP's Silver Jubilee

The Rwanda National Police (RNP) celebrated its 25th anniversary on May 27, 2026, marking a quarter-century of institutional transformation, robust public safety, and deep-rooted community trust. The milestone event, held at the Police Training School (PTS) Gishari in Rwamagana District, was graced by President Paul Kagame and coincided with the commissioning of more than 430 officer cadets.

Addressing the gathering, President Kagame highly commended the RNP for its dedication, courage, and unwavering professionalism in ensuring the safety and security of all Rwandans. He explicitly thanked the police officers for the daily sacrifices they make to ensure citizens live and work safely and with dignity.

"I want to commend the Rwanda National Police for the excellent work they have done over the past 25 years for our country," President Kagame stated.

The Head of State emphasized that the core values upheld by the force extend well beyond domestic borders. Through international peacekeeping missions in volatile regions, including South Sudan, the Central African Republic, and Mozambique, Rwandan police officers have earned widespread international acclaim for their discipline and high standards of execution.

Reflecting on the secret behind the country's stability, President Kagame noted that the RNP’s milestones are a direct product of shared responsibility. He stressed the importance of preserving and strengthening the culture of cooperation and unity that has successfully enabled Rwanda to maintain peace.

"What the police have achieved comes from working together with different partners, especially other security organs, but also Rwandans themselves who have contributed a lot," Kagame said. "This good culture of working together and the strength we have in us must be protected and continuously developed."

The President also extended his gratitude to visiting police leaders from allied countries and international guests in attendance, reinforcing Rwanda's commitment to cross-border law enforcement collaboration. "We all share the willingness to continue working together in protecting our security and development," he added.

Established in 2000 through the strategic merger of the Gendarmerie Nationale, Police Communale, and Police Judiciaire, the RNP has evolved from a post-genocide reconstruction project into a highly sophisticated law enforcement body. As crime shifts into the digital and cyber realms, both President Kagame and Inspector General of Police CG Felix Namuhoranye reiterated that the force will continuously prioritize advanced training, artificial intelligence, and capacity building to counter modern, sophisticated threats.
